« on: Sunday 15 May 05 13:30 BST (UK) »

Roll Eyes Please can some one lookup my great uncle's death and where Percy Charles Ashton was born on the 23rd. April 1888 in Peterborough. I have not been able to find him on 1837 on line I suspect he died between 1920 & 1930 but I do not know for sure and he would have only been 40 in 1928, unfortunately I do not have any family help with this one !  Huh I do not think he ever married and I suspect he was injured in some way during his war service but again I do not know. thank you for any help that may be out there.
Cheers

 Grin Grin Grin

Hi you must have missed him, I found him in the April to June Q 1888 could not make out the vol number but it looks like 8b page 242, Peterborough, this will have to be checked, as 8b is the Liverpool area, but I could be wrong. it could be 3b but the rest is correct.  You would have to order the birth cert to find out where he was born, you can do this online via 1837online then click on certs!

I have not looked up any death reg yet,  I will get back if I find anything.

Regards

 Huh Huh Hi again  Jan
I have percy's birth place and date and his 1914/18 war record the problem is I can not find any record of his death or where he died. His war records show he intended to take up a possition as a commercial traveler after his war service, prior to his war service he was a Clerk for a Peterborough based company but does not say who or where  I suspect he may have worked for a London Company but I do not know why I suspect this  Embarrassed
Thanks again for your help
Best Regards

 Undecided

Hi again,

I looked at death records for 1925 up to 1930, every quarter in each year, could not find a death for PERCY CHARLES ASHTON in any of those years.  So it looks like either before 1925 or after 1930!

Do you know if he died in England?  he could have been anywhere, if he took up travelling etc, who knows where he may have ended up?

do you have him in any census records from 1891 and 1901, would be the only ones he may be found on, I don't have access to these, but I am sure someone who has access or the actual discs would do a look up for you, other than that the only way is to subscribe to Ancestry.com or ancestry.co.uk, the uk one is a pay per view, it costs about £6.99 for so many credits, about 20 I think.  This would be your best bet as you would be able to search both years.  The 1901 census is also online, that is £5 minimum, but you can only search 1901.

Very best of luck

 Embarrassed Hi again Jan
Thank you again  for your trouble. Yes Percy was on the 1891 & 1901 Census living at home with his parents he was age 12 at 1901 at the time, I also have several letters from Percy to his mother Elizabeth Ann Ashton addressed to her at 206 Cromwell road in Peterborough. where I am sure Percy lived after WW1.  I was beginning to think it was me not driving this site properly when I couldnt find him ( or at least a record of his Death)
I have always believed he died in the 1920's as a result of a possible  injury incured during the 1st world war he definately died in this country. England that is, the strange thing is as you say there doesnt seem to be any record, I will have to invest in some more credits and search the 1930's he would have only been in his 60 in 1938. My Grandfather died when he was 81 in 1966 and Percy was his younger Brother by 2 years but "who knows"
I am fairly certain  Percy was dead before I was born and I think for a long time, any way thank you once again for your trouble and time.
Best Regards
