Hi

Thanks for your reply.  I only have one Ann Royan in my tree born 1837 born Morayshire.    Father John Royan and mother Isabella Kerrah (there are different spellings of this name recorded Keerow, Kerra) not sure which is correct.  She was a sister of my great, great grandfather.  Do you have any other info on Ann?  Your Ann had her first child in 1851 but the Ann in my tree would have been around 14 in 1851 so I don't think it is the same Ann.  I have not been able to find Ann in the Scotlans People Census records or marriage or death records so I think she may have died prior to 1855.

I noticed you are interested in Christie and Paterson.  I have both these names in my tree.  Patersons from St Rollex, Glasgow and Christies from Perthshire and Inverness-shire - ring any bells?

hi there,

i have just found my ann's parents via website: http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp

they are listed as James Royan & Margaret Peterkin. - so they cant be the same person after all.

my patersons are from urray & killearnan areas of ross & cromarty.
my christies are also from urray & killearnan areas, but one family did live in inverness for a while....

1881 census:

Dwelling:   31 Petty St
   Census Place:   Inverness, Inverness, Scotland
Source:   FHL Film 0203421     GRO Ref    Volume 098    EnumDist 6    Page 24
   Marr   Age   Sex   Birthplace
David CHRISTIE   M   36    M   Killearnan, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland
   Rel:   Head
   Occ:   Farm Labourer
Mary CHRISTIE   M   30    F   Urray, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland
   Rel:   Wife
   Occ:   Wife
John CHRISTIE   U   19    M   Contin, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland
   Rel:   Son
   Occ:   Mason
William (Twin) CHRISTIE   U   7    M   Glenurquhart, Inverness, Scotland
   Rel:   Son
Murdo (Twin) CHRISTIE   U   7    M   Glenurquhart, Inverness, Scotland
   Rel:   Son
   Occ:   Scholer
Anne CHRISTIE   U   6    F   Inverness, Scotland
   Rel:   Daur
   Occ:   Scholer
Mary CHRISTIE       18 m   F   Dores, Inverness, Scotland
   Rel:   Daur

but by 1891, they were back in urray.
also john (eldest above) was not mary's son.
mary m.s gordon married david christie 17th june 1870 in urray.

kind regards,
Lorna.

I will have a look at the certificates I have.  I have quite a few Royan certificates that do not "fit" into my tree.  If I think I have any that might interest you I will let you know.  I will have a look at the weekend.

Where are you located?

I am in Nairn in the north of Scotland.

thanks for that - it is much appreciated.  Smiley

i'm actually in Dingwall myself, so not too far. - it makes it easier for my research too and i can go to the library in inverness when i have time, which really helps.

my Royan link that i have just found is through starting to researching my dad's mother's side. (mcleod) - they are all from auldearn, elgin sort of areas. and my grandmother's birth cert has her born at ardclach.

thanks again,

kind regards,
Lorna.
