I've found christening dates in my tree in Cumberland are often 5 plus years after birth.

Thanks to both of you for the information.  Anything is possible as whoever they left her with may have had her Baptised again in case her parents didn't do it.
It certainly looks like her.

Again thanks

Dear Berjan,

I have just come across your post. I am an ancestor of this couple and I would be interested if you have any further information about their children, Margaret and William. Also, I would like information about William (senior) occupation in England as I understand his role in the militia would be part-time.

I have the family tree in Australia if you are interested.

Regards,
John

John

I do not have any more information on Margaret Tyson, as that was what I was hoping to find out.

William Snrs occupation in UK was in the militia as I have made no connection with his family with in UK.

William Jnr. I have information on, but would be interested to swap any tree information.

Regards

Hello
I am interested in certain historical aspects of Ennerdale. In this , one John Tyson, born about 1780 in Seathwaite, lived at at a place called Gillerthwaite with his wife Sarah in 1841. The Tyson's farmed this valley for many years after 1841 but I don't know how long before this time they were there.
It is said that Gillerthwaite was once one of the largest farms in England and Black Sail, now a famous youth hostel. was home to the shepherd in Tyson's employ.
Just to thrill and excite you further, one of the outbuildings at Gillerthwaite includes a stone with John and Sarah's initials chisselled into the tough Ennerdale Grannophire. I would be pleased to submit photographs of this feature or any others if this is of interest to you. The walls by the way are all three foot thick.
I hope you don't mind my turning this post round in my favour, but if this Tyson is one of yours I would  really love to have  further ancestral details.

Malmo

Thanks for your very detailed post but where is Ennerdale Southwaite?
Is it in Cumberland?  As I told John I do not know where my Tyson's come from other than it was in Cumberland.
All I know is that William was born c1781 Whitehaven, Cumberland.  He and his family were in Australia by 1809.

Is this the same place and family?

Hello Janette,
Seathwaite is a small town in Cumberland, although in 1851 it was in Lancashire.
Ennerdale is a Valley within Cumberland which includes Ennerdale water. These are within a national park boundary otherwise known as the Lake District, an area of oustanding natural beauty.
Gillerthwaite is the farm located approximately halfway along Ennerdale valley beyond Ennerdale water.
John and Sarah Tyson from Seathwaite and Eskdale respectively, farmed Ennerdale with their family which included William who was born in Eskdale about 1820
Clearly this is not your William, but in posting I was hoping to make some connection with your Tysons and others who may be reading this stuff.
I have only just started my search on these people and have alot more work to do.

Seathwaite(s):

It's perhaps a bit late to add to this thread, but you might like to know that
there are two places named Seathwaite (at least), a small village in Lancashire and a very small settlement (2-4 houses perhaps) at the head of Borrowdale in Cumberland; I have ancestors (Jopson and Braithwaite) from the latter.

Interested to read about Black Sail Youth Hostel -  I stayed there last month.

Hi

Just a quick note to say that I have various Tyson's and Braithwaites from the Seathwaite, Ulpha, Nether Wasdale area of Cumberland.

I will have a look and see what I can find.  Please let me know if you think I might have one of yours.

Regards
