Hello,
Please does anyone know of Jane Cobb b. 1788 in Petworth. Unfortunately I don't know her maiden name or her husband's first name yet.
She moved to Portsea, Hampshire and her children were born there, so maybe her husband was from that area too. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone knows of a Cobb family in the area, particularly if one of the men married a Jane I would love to hear from you.
Jane was a widow by the 1861 census.
Any information would be most welcome,

No Cobbs born or living in Petworth on the 1861 census, but there is one Pelham
Eliza Pelham 1808 Petworth, Sussex, England Head Dorking Surrey Widow
Henry Pelham 1838 Dorking, Surrey, England Son Dorking Surrey
Pelham as a surname (from the 1861 census) seems to have strong roots in Sussex.

Thank you very much for that information, I had a long list of possible marriages for Jane's possible husband, one of them being William Cobb who married Jane Pellem 1820 in Portsea. Finding a Pelham link with Petworth is great,
