Does anyone know of any Stormont family who where originally from Arbroath and may have lived in Belfast for a short period of time, wether they be friends or family from anywhere in the world

Anne Marie, have been reading your searches for info on the Stormonts - very interesting.  How far back have you got?  Jack (Carnouustie) was my grandfather and my mum has a good bit of history about the family.  Also note that you were enquiring about Muriel - she is alive and well and still living in St Catherines, Ontario.  My sister lives near to her and has been to see her a few times.

Hi

Are you Andrew, if so I was about to reply to your message from curious fox and you must be Janet's son.

As you've been reading, you're obviously aware that my grandad and your grandad were brothers. To be honest I've not done a great deal of research lately, seem to get more done in the winter. I have got as far back as our grandads grandmother who was Jane Ingram and was never married to the David Stormont that she named her children after. Our grandads father was illegitimate  and named David Ingram, with his sister being Williamina Ingram, again illegitimate. Jane Ingram then went on to marry Alexander Gibb.

On our grandads mothers side, I have discovered that she, Jane Cooper was one of 4 children born to David Cooper and Marjory Moir. David Coopers parents were William Cooper and Elizabeth Mitchell who were married in Edzell on the 21/07/1827. Marjory's parents were James Moir and Jane Hutchins, (I think that is what my writing says!).

I did manage to find out where Muriel was living from a lady sending me a link for a Canadian directory. This then gave me the same address that I have in a book that lists all the Stormonts that my dad had , which we discovered after he died at the beginning of this year.

Believe it or not, but I think that we may have actually met when we came and stayed at Pitkerro House a long time ago, when I was about 12ish. My dad was Jack and my mum is Marie.

I have also made contact with Barbara, your cousin and I also managed to track down Adrienne in New Zealand, but haven't heard from them for a while.

Take Care and look forward to hearing from you.
Anne Marie

GG father , Alexander Jack, was married to Mary Stormont in Brechin.  Her father was William Stormont and mother Isobel Watson.  She died in 1856 aged 39 when her fourth child was about a year old.   I have interesting Australian followup on one of her sons  if anyone out there is hunting along the same track.
