Wallis House « on: Friday 20 May 05 00:50 BST (UK) »
Please does anyone know of /or where 'Wallis House' is. I have been told that several generations of my ancestors were wheelwrights there during the 18th and 19th century. Children of the family were christened in the Sevenoakes, Kemsing, Sundridge and Brasted areas. So it could be around there. Any leads would be much appreciated.

Hi Megg,
I have checked the 1847 Bagshaw Directory of Kent, the Wheelwrights listed under Sevenoaks are:
Robert Heath Isaac Jenks Phillip,Page James Simmons Eli Warren
No mention of Wallis House though, nor are there any wheelwrights listed under the other villages you mention.
Steph.

Hello Steph,
Many thanks for your efforts. The chap I was looking for is not in the list you found. The closest mention I have found to 'Wallis House" is in Croydon in Surrey but I don't think that is the one. I'll keep looking.

There is a Wallis House in the hamlet of Wallisdown in Dorset. An ancestor of mine lived next door but one in the 1881 census. It is the home of George Packes.
