I am researching one William LEUCHARS who was born in Monikie, Forfar (Angus), Scotland in 1863, but ended up in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, where he operated a photographic studio between 1895 and at least 1926. I have just discovered that after his marriage in Forfar in 1888, he spent a few years in Elswick, Northumberland, before settling in Derbyshire. Indeed he is shown with his wife Betsy living at 150 Stanton Street, Elswick in the 1891 Census - practising as a photographer!
I would be very grateful for any other sightings of William Leuchars and his photographic studio in Elswick between 1888, when he was last sighted in Scotland, and 1895, when he first appeared in Derbyshire, please. For example, perhaps he would have been listed in a trade directory of this period. If anyone has any old family photographs by William Leuchars, I would appreciate scanned images to include in the biographical profile and portfolio for him that I'm compiling for my web site, devoted to Victorian & Edwardian Photographers in Derbyshire.
Thanks very much,
Regards and best wishes,
