Hi, One of my ancestors, William Cook/Cooke was born illegitimately on 22 May 1879 in Coalville. His mother was Ann Cook, father was not named on the certificate. I have recently read that sometimes the fathers name is given in the parish records and wondered if somebody would be kind enough to look for me. Any help would be really appreciated.

I am still looking for this baptism if anyone is able to help. Interestingly William was brought up by his grandparents (William and Elizabeth Cooke). They only ever had the one daughter Ann. Ann is on the 1881 census married to a George Clark with a son 3 months old. She must have got married quite soon after giving birth to William, I can't see how this George Clark would be the father though, otherwise they would have brought William up themselves, wouldn't they?
I wonder if William ever knew that the people that raised him were actually his grandparents.
Anyway if anyone is able to help, it would be really appreciated.

Hi,
I have a William Cook born 1835 Coalville/Whitwick. Parents were John Fletcher & Jane Cooke. He was also brought up by his Grandparents. Do you have other Cook/Cooke in the Coalville area

Hi Derek,
Sorry for the late reply; unfortunately I didn't get a notification of your post; but happened to look into new replies to my posts and was surprised to see yours!
I do not have a Jane Cooke in the Coalville area. William (the grandfather) parents were John Cooke born 1802 in Shepshed and Ann (surname unknown) born 1797 in Coleorton.
