« on: Monday 28 June 04 14:41 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

Has anyone got access to a 1861 census of Devon -
I am looking for Thomas Manning (aged about 62)
and his wife, Dinah (aged about 59) in the
parish of Stockland, Devon....

Thanks,

Hi

I realise that this is an old post and so you may already have found the information you wanted Roll Eyes. However, here goes -
RG9/1372 Folio 61 Page 23

Lodge (Hodge?)  Lake -

Thomas Manning 65 Head - Stone Mason (Born) Dorset Beaminster
Dinah Manning 65 Wife - (Born) Dorset Stockland
Henry Manning 16(?)  Son - Tailor (Born) Dorset Stockland
Sarah J Manning 7 Grandchild - (Born) Dorset Brandcombe
James Beer 6 Lodger - (Born) Devon Membury

Stockland seems to have wandered across the border between Dorset and Devon and appears in Dorset in 1861.

I also have copies of the microfiche for Stockland Parish registers, so if you would like anything else looking up, please let me know.

Regards

Angela

Hi Angela and Jennifer,

I don't know how I missed your posts, but I've only just seen them. I was away in October so perhaps they just slipped through in the huge pile of junk e-mail I would have had when I got back.

Angela, thankyou for that information. I hadn't managed to find it from elsewhere and it was very useful.

Jenny, I would love to compare information - I will send you a personal message tonight when I have my notes with me.
