matlock derby
« on: Sunday 22 May 05 18:03 UTC (UK) »

It was rumored that Sarah, Wm, and sons, Wm & Robert Hollis lived in Matlock Derby around 1871. this is son Williams birth.
I cannot find them there, or when they supposedly moved to a town called Wrexham, Nth Wales.
Would anyone have the census record for this date and can put my sanity at rest.
Many thanks for any help.

Sadly, this is the problem of the Hollis info, I was informed they were born, married there in Matlock Derby. William Jr born 1878 his brother Robert about 1900. There is no definate answers but only clues.
I have no idea of the maiden name of the mother Sarah, so it's particulary difficult to discover anything about these people.

Sorry, I noticed that I accidently put Williams birth as 1871 and 1878......the latter is correct. 1878.

I am confused  Grin you ask for an 1871 look up for this family and yet one son isn't born till 1878 and the other one some 22 years later  Huh

Do you have them on any census at all,if so can you post the info here please.
At least then we'd have some sort of starting point.

Can you tell us what job dad did, incase we have to narrow a few down.

Regards

Carol

My deepest apologies on the year I mentioned. William Jr. born 1878. His father's profession is not known. William Sr. seems not to be in son's life for very long according to rumour, he dies, I don't know when.

It was also rumoured that the Hollis family lived in "Hollis House" Derby.
I assume in Matlock as this was the only name given regarding the family.

The second son, Robert was about 2 years younger then William Jr. his birth around 1880.
I have found no census regarding this family.
They are my G.Grand parents, and Grand father. All I have of them are some photos which is very annoying, when I cannot place times, places for them.

William Jr. became a Master Blacksmith. His siblings went on to more studious employment, so my family have told me.
