Chapman
« on: Sunday 22 May 05 19:35 UTC (UK) »

My G father was born Sept 22 1892 in Whitchurch Hampshire Eng.  His father was Charles James and Mother Christine Bessie Newnam (or Allfrey).  She had a stage name Christine Newnam.  He had a brothe Edgar whom he came to Canada with but brother Cecil remained in England.  Charles' brother owned a yacht club in Brighton at a later date. Any info on this family would be great.

Thank you Valda, I knew there was a "Fred" and "Bert" as brothers, but no-one seemed to know if they were brothers or half brothers from the mothers second marriage to a Mr. Dean after the father died.  Cleared that up.   Smiley

Thanks again, you've been busy.  I only found this website today!  I'm not sure where the Allfrey came from but I remember Reg (my Grandpa) mentioning it.  Bessie had a stage name of Christine Newnam, I think borrowed from some lady in Germany.  She once sang in the Crystal Palace.  Reg and Edgar A. came to Canada on the Empress of Ireland 1908.  Nothing is known about all these people you've shown me, other than Bessie married an Arthur Dean after being widowed.  Rumour was Charles Chapman drowned himself.  I know she was still alive when my Dad was young 1920's.  Don't know anything of Cecil and his family which I think are the only of Reg's siblings to stay in England.  Either Charles Fred  or Herbert J died at sea (navy?) and the other I think went to USA.  Thanks for all your help.
