Two Buckett births - Fareham/Titchfield
« on: Sunday 22 May 05 21:26 UTC (UK) »

I cannot trace two births, probably Fareham. The only evidence I have that these two existed is from the 1841 and 1861 Census returns.

1841 William Buckett, aged 6 (approx) living with parents Mary and Benjamin and siblings at West Street, Fareham.
1861 Thomas Buckett, aged 14 (approx) living with parents (as above) and siblings at Adelaide Place, Fareham.

They do not appear in any other Census returns later.

There is also possibly another child who I cannot find, who may have been born around 1841 - 1844 probably in Fareham.

I have looked in later Census returns but without success.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Honeybun

Hi Honeybun,

There are 3 "Bucketts" born in Fareham:
Ellen June 1841
James March 1842
John Sept 1842
Plus 4 born Isle of Wight ( coming from "up north") don't know what is near to Fareham!!
Do you want details??

William will be born pre registration 1837 - so not down.

Cheers

No help from the fareham 1851 census index I'm affraid. Only 3 Bucketts, George age 19, James aged 37 and Maria aged 50. All in Fareham, George and James listed on the same page, Maria on another page. No Bucketts in Portchester, Rowner or Boarhunt.

Keith and cookiecrisp

Isle of Wight is just off the Hampshire coast - there are some Buckett families there but the James and John from Fareham could be of interest if you have more details please so I can follow them up.

cookiecrisp - The Fareham 1851 index looks really promising - have you any more details of the families/addresses please?  George is definitely one I am looking for, also James and Maria may be related to my main family.  I would be interested to know what family George was living with and where.

Although they don't appear to be the ones I asked about in the original message they are important. especially George as he is my great great grandfather's first child.  I lost track of him after the 1841 Census so the 1851 is really important and will fill in a big gap.

Thanks

Hi Honeybun

I only have the index to the 1851 Fareham census, but the page details are as follows.
George and James HO/107/1661 page 119
Maria HO/107/1661 page 129

You could probably order page copies from the hampshire records office.

Hi cookiecrisp

Your info will be a great help.  I'll do what you suggest and see if I can order them from Winchester.

Thanks again.
