Can anyone help me find the maiden name of a Mary A Hobbins born around 1841. According to the census in 1881 she was widowed and I do not know her husbands first name. She had five children Sarah, Harry, William, John and George. According to the 1881 census she was born in Bickmarsh Warwick but I do not know how accurate this is. Any help would be appreciated.

Is this her in 1871? Then she was already a widow:
RG10/3211 Folio 88 p 10 Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire Mary A Hobbins, head, 30, wid, Ag Lab widow, b. Worcester (Pebworth?) Harry, son, 9, scholar b. Warwick (Aston Cantlow?) Sarah A, dau, scholar, b. do. Eliza, dau, 6 William, son, 4 John, son, 3 George, son, 1
I'm off checking 1861.

I think she couldn't make up her mind about her birthplace.
In 1891, she's down as married (?), living alone, born Alcester, Warwickshire. (RG 12/2481 Folio 79 p. 12)
In 1901, she's with son William Hobbins, single, and Grandson James age 18 and she's down as being born Gloucestershire Dorsington (RG 13/2944 Folio 80 p. 6, Aston Cantlow)

Hi emw,
Thanks for your PM. The death of William in Alcester indeed seems likely to me. Searching on the BMD index images not yet transcribed on FreeBMD, I have also found a marriage for a William Hobbins in Sept quarter 1861, Alcester RD, Vol 6d p. 636.
The virtual unsolvable problem is finding out who he married without ordering the certificate.
I went back to the 1861 Census to try and sort out a few likely 'Mary A' candidates, born around 1841 (her age doesn't seem to vary much on the different census returns) in either Dorsington or Alcester or Pebworth and have selected 4 of them. There was Mary A Need, b. Dorsington ca. 1844 Mary A Tandy, b. Pebworth ca. 1842 Mary A Field, b. Alcester ca. 1841 Mary A Wright, b. Alcester ca. 1841
I have checked these 4 names for a marriage in Alcester in Sep 1861 with same references as William - to no avail, unfortunately.
I couldn't find anything on WestmidlandsBMD either.
I don't (but perhaps somebody else does?) see how you could find out her maiden name without ordering Harry's birth certificate.
Sorry not to be able to help more.
