NEWSPLAN London and the South East
History and Society Through Local Newspapers
in London and the South East

Introduction to NEWSPLAN
The NEWSPLAN London and the South East web-site provides details of about 2,500 titles of local newspapers, past and present, relating to the London and South East region of the United Kingdom.  Smiley

The entries include main titles and titles of their variant editions for local areas, together with predecessor and successor titles; start and end dates of newspapers; and, where and in what sequences the newspapers are held in (largely) public libraries and archives within London and the South East. Many copies, too, are held by the British Library Newspaper Library.

Many years ago - perhaps up to the 1950s - the "News of the World" used to carry a column listing the surnames of people who might have a claim to "unclaimed money".

Does anyone know if the "News of the World" has archives that can be inspected.

I would try Colindale Newspaper Library.

Hi Amanda,
Thanks for posting the URL, it was interesting and produced several results for the Orlando one name study (although I wasn't the original enquirer).  Apart from paying online to gain the info, were these details published in an Canadian newspaper originally?

I am not sure where it came from. My sister told me about it. The website was in the paper we have here. She forgot the website, so she googled it for me and found that one.
Do you think you have lost money out there some where from family? We know we do but we can't do anything because it is not our mom or dad.

I asked the original question but I'm not expecting to claim anything.  It's just that my older sister can remember something in that 'News of the World' column that might lead me to a 'missing' family member.

Thanks, JDG, that Colindale library seems to be the right place.
