Please can anyone help to link the BEARD families that lived in Powick with the BEARD families in Guarlford or Madresfield.

I know my Dad (Samuel Beard) stayed with an Aunt in Powick circa 1905. The question is who.

Thanks Mike

Hi Michael,

If you have a look at the 1901 census for people with the surname Beard living in Powick there is the following family:

George Beard, 28, born Guarlford Malvern, roadman
Rosina Beard, 28, born Malvern
George Beard, 7, born Malvern Worcs
Elizabeth Beard, 5, born Guarlford Malvern
Samuel Beard, 3, born Guarlford Malvern

Go to http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/, and then enter surname Beard and in place keywords Powick and you will find them.  This information is from the free-to-view index, to see the full entry you will have to pay.

Hope this helps,

Thank you so much for your trouble, these are all my family.

What I'm stuck with is how this family are related to the Beards who lived in Powick, as talked about by my Dad. Roll Eyes

Is it possible that the connection is Rose Beard, aged 15 in 1881, living Powick but born "Maddersfield". If that is a meant to be Madresfield maybe she married a Powick boy?
Did you find George Snr and Elizabeth in the 1871 census? Are there anymore siblings on that census?

Thats a new one.

The name Rose and Rosina run in the family. Where did you locate this Rose? Perhaps I could have a look there too?

I've got very good records of the Guarlford/Madresfield Beards. One thing to remember is that Guarlford did not exist as a parish untill late in 1800's, so many Madresfield christenings actually lived in Guarlford Village.

I am amazed at the rapid response to my query, many thank to all who have taken the trouble to read it.

I found Rose by searching at www.familysearch.com in the census, for surname Beard, born Worcestershire, living Powick. It came up with the following;

 1. Lilian BEARD - 1881 British Census / Worcester
Daughter   Gender: Female   Birth: <1878> Claines, Worcester, England

 2. William BEARD - 1881 British Census / Worcester
Son   Gender: Male   Birth: <1880> Powick, Worcester, England

 3. Rose BEARD - 1881 British Census / Worcester
Servant   Gender: Female   Birth: <1866> Maddersfield, Worcester, England

The first two are children in a family from Hereford but Rose looked a possiblity.
