missing ! 3 Taylor sons 1881
« on: Wednesday 01 June 05 11:19 BST (UK) »

Any suggestions where I can search for three Taylor sons, Edwin Taylor (20 b Wimborne), Albert  R Taylor (18 b Parkstone) and Ernest G (16 b Wimborne) who are all missing from the 1881 census. Their mother, Ellen Taylor died in 1879 and i believe their father Edwin Taylor died sometime previously. Their sister Annie is staying with their paternal uncle on the night of the census. I have searched amongst the records to see if they are staying with either set of grandparents and have drawn a blank. Ive come to the conclusion that they are possibly out of the country on the date. If so anyone know how I can trace them? All three are seemingly alive in 1891.

Jacks,
Here's what I've found.
Firstly Edwin - aged 20.
There are two possiblilities for him, you may be able to tell which one is him by his occupation in 1891?
1) 10 Devonshire St, Middlesex
RG11/0065/34/19
Robert SQUIRES Head M Male 51 Caistor, Norfolk, Railway Serv
Hannah SQUIRES Wife M Female 41 Shoreditch, Middlesex
Elizabeth PEAR Motherinlaw Female 75 Stepney, Middlesex
Hanna L PEAR Neice U Female 9 Stepney, Middlesex, Scholar
Edwin TAYLOR Lodger U Male 20 Ashmore, Dorset, Railway Porter
Clement GRIFFIN Lodger U Male 24 Devon
Rebecca WOGGETT Lodger W Female 89 Ashcomb, Devon, Independant

2) High Street, Swanage, Dorset
RG11/2098/14/19
Mary Ann HARDEN Head U Female 64 Swanage, Dorset Dressmaker
Edwin TAYLOR Lodger U Male 21 Dorset Coachman
William A TAYLOR Lodger M Male Frome Somerset Baker

Next to Albert R
There are no Albert Rs born in Dorset
There is a plain old Albert as follows which could be a likely candidate
Park Street, Woodstock, Oxford
RG11/1512/38/10
Edward PRESCOTT Head M Male 29 Woodstock, Oxford Linen & Wollen Draper
Sophia L PRESCOTT Wife M Female 34 Ducklington, Oxford
Ellen PRESCOTT Mother W Female 69 London, Middlesex
Albert TAYLOR Assistant U Male 18 Osmington, Weymouth, Dorset, Drapers Assistant
Francis R HAWTIN Apprentice Male 14 Oxford Drapers Apprentice
Annie LONGSHAW Serv U Female 18 Shipton under Wychwood, Oxford, Serv (Domestic)

Lastly for Ernest G
The only Ernest Taylor I can find at about the age you are looking for, not with parents is the following.  I know that the birthplace given is not Dorset, but if the person who is giving the info on the occupants is not aware of where he was born, they may have just said this rather than "UNKNOWN"

Fulbridge Mill Lane, Maldon St Peter, Essex
RG11/1776/57/14
Emma TANN Head W Female 53 Danbury, Essex, Licensed Victualler
Emma Mary TANN Daur U Female 24 Maldon, Essex, Barmaid
Georg Wm TANN Son U Male 18 Maldon, Essex, Carman
Edward J TANN Son U Male 14 Maldon, Essex, Carman
Jane BRADLEY Serv U Female 15 Needham, Suffolk, General Svt
William HARRIS Lodger U Male 55 Latchington, Essex, Blacksmith
Charles COTTIS Lodger U Male 42 Goldhanger, Essex, Carman
Ernest TAYLOR Lodger U Male 16 Danbury, Essex, Hurdle Maker

All of these may not be yours but see if the occupations match with anything you have in 1891!!

Godd luck
Claudia

Thanks for that Claudia but I'm fairly sure that the Taylor boys I'm looking for are not these. Albert became a butcher, in the family trade, atleast three generations were butchers. Edwin is listed as a Clerk and Draughtsmen for the Ordanance survey in 1891. Im not sure about Ernest but as they come from a middleclass background I would imagine that Ernest has a similar type of job.

but thanks for trying!!! Grin
