Info about life in old Orkney
« Reply #15 on: Thursday 04 December 08 22:20 UTC (UK) »

There have been quite a lot of local histories written about life in old Orkney.  You might want to make an enquiry to www.orcadian.co.uk - this is our local newspaper, that also publishes local books and has an online bookshop.  If you wanted advice on what books might be most useful, I'm sure you could email them with your requests.

Excellent Corinne,

I'm sure that is the farm, the island of Rousay is mentioned in most of the records I have.

Thanks again.

On 1861 census for Rousay. Saviskaill, William Seatter born Evie 34 head, Jane 25 wife born Perth and Frederick W B  son aged 1 born Rousay

Saviskaill would be the name of the farm.

This is a site you might find interesting wwwrousayroots.com there is a map of Rousay with Saviskaill on it
