OK, what do we have?
All you know about Carry is what was on her marriage certificate?? Father: Henry dec'd. Did it give an occupation? Who were the witnesses?
You've had no luck going through the GRO indexes. FreeBMD is fully transcribed for 1891-1905 (same thing as the GRO!). There's one Caroline Leavens in the index: born in Cambridge, with, by cross referencing the 1901 census where the dates match perfectly, a father Harry (a popular abbreviation of Henry). This does seem to be the obvious person, although the middle names don't tally. What does the the birth cert of this Carry show? How are you so sure that this is not the right Carry.
There is of course the possibility that Leavens has been mistranscribed in the GRO and the censuses, so they're all there under a different spelling. There are very few Leavens in either the censuses or the GRO index.
Your gut feeling is that she was from Cambs - there is only one Caroline Leavens born in Cambs (there is only one Caroline Leavens in the whole of the country!). She is of the right age and her father's name fits.
What else do you know about her?
Regards
David

Hi Margaret
I'm missing something here!
1901 census Cambridge Carry Leavens aged 3 born Cambridge father Harry Leavens general labourer
GRO index Caroline Mary Leavens Cambridge March 1898
Reasonable to assume that these two Carry/Caroline's are the same person.
There are no other Carry/Caroline births in the GRO indexes.
It seems as though Caroline Mary is the one you're looking for - but you say you have the birth cert for the Carry from the census. Have you checked the parish register of St Andrew the Less to see if she was christened there? You may find that she was registered as Caroline Mary but christened as Caroline Annie Dorothy, or she may merely have preferred to call herself Caroline Annie Dorothy.
Good luck
David

My two gorgeous grandsons

Margaret
Who were the witnesses at her 1924 marriage? I have often found those to be a great help.
You do realise that Harry is the pet name for anyone called Henry?
Our own Prince Harry is really a Henry,so was my grandad(but he had far less money )
Regards
Carol
