Can anyone help me locate my gandmother Selina Flew born on Portland in Wakeham or Southwell around 1890, married Joseph Cutting in 1911, lived in Easton and died in 1963. Selina had at least one sister Marion who married (new name unknown) and lived in Fortuneswell at least until the early 1960s. I'm interested in finding out about her parents and also her siblings and their descendents. Thanks.

Thanks Debbie. Yes, this certainly helps. I'm new to the topic of online genealogy and could use some advice. Of the various internet subscription service, which one is reckoned to be the best for accessing births, marriages and deaths information for rural England ? Thanks again. Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I would start looking on FreeBMD - it is an ongoing project so not complete but it is free. http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/
http://www.1837online.com/ As far as I know this is the only complete online index of Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1837 onwards. It is pay per view but I don't think it is too expensive unless you are looking for a very common name over a long period. I think there is also a link from the site to purchase certificates online.
Good Luck!
Debbie

Andrew
If you have not come across it already the Dorset OPC site www.dorset-opc.com has masses of information on Portland - there are a significant number of Flews on Portland. The site is free.
I have done a quick search on the site and cannot see a specific reference to a christening of that name - but of you make further progress you will undoubtedly come across other ancestors on the site.
Good luck
Debbie (a different one from your earlier respondant)
