I am researching the name Richards within the Ruabon area.
My GGrandfather was Edward Richards ( known as Ned) born c1876 in Ruabon. He married Catherine Griffiths in 1898 at Acrefair Chapel.
I have a massive brick wall with Edward. On his marriage certificate his father is named as Alfred. I can find nothing on any census return where there is an Alfred and Edward.
I am aware that Welsh families often had a birth name and then were called something different and I am wondering if this is the case. There are at least 4 Edward Richards born in that area at that time so I feel a bit stuck
The only facts I have is the marriage cert and the 1901 census where Edward is with wife Catherine and children John and Edward. In later years the family moved to Llay andEdward worked in the colliery ther.
If anyone can help with any information I will be extremely grateful
Regards Allie

Do you know Alfred's occupation (from the marriage certificate)? and if so is the undermentioned a possibility? Condover to Ruabon is not too far and they may have moved..

Hi Peterej,
Many thanks for looking for me! I am certain that the family stayed in the Ruabon area. Alfred's occupation is given as being an Engine driver.
Hi William,
You are looking in the same direction as I did! I had got Humphrey as the father until I received this marriage certificate.
I shall have to pass on my new email address to you as it must have changed since we were last in contact with each other. Many thanks for your input
