1851 great dunmow
« on: Monday 06 June 05 14:33 BST (UK) »

Hi folks - have recently found a father to my James WILKS - another James!
I would love the 1851 details for him - I do have 1861 as well as 1841.
This is the info from 1841:
WILKS  ANN  F  45  ESSEX  THREADER'S GREEN    GREAT DUNMOW  ESSEX
WILKS  JAMES  M  50  ESSEX  a beer seller in 1841 and a butcher in 1861
WILKS  JANE  F  13  ESSEX
WILKS  JOSEPH  M  18  ESSEX
Birthplaces would be very useful - James i think was born in Canfield.
Many thanks
Ruth

Ruth
I understand that the whole of the 1851 census for the Dunmow Registration District is missing Sad I have not come across the reason for this but assume the returns were destroyed, stored badly or lost.
I have several families in this area in 1851 and like you I have had to make the best of the 1841 and 1861.  A real pain if one of the people died before 1861 and you want to know their birthplace Huh

Thank you for that - I did not know it was missing. I cannot find the younger James and Caroline, on any census in 1851 or 1861 at all, so have given up on them. Unfortunately as a result I do not know if they had any other children besides my great gran Caroline Betsey in 1852.
Once again thank you
