Can some kind soul do a 192 lookup?
« on: Monday 06 June 05 09:08 UTC (UK) »

I'm anxious to talk to a long-lost relative.  I've looked on 192.com, and have confirmed that the relative in question is listed on the 2005 electoral roll.  However, to view the record, one needs to buy credits.  A one-off purchase costs GBP 34.95, which I'd be willing to pay, even though I only anticipate one look-up.  However, apparently I have to also order the "Historical Access", giving access to the 2002, '03, and '04 electoral rolls, even though I don't need them.  This costs another GBP 145, or so, which is obviously too much!

So I wonder if someone who may have surplus credits, about to expire, might help me with this one look-up?  If so, the reference is Ernest Payne, in Sidcup.  The basic search gives two records, and the one I'm interested in is the one that lists Philippa Payne as being another occupant.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried the 'get sponsored credits' option? They usually offer a few free credits. Easiest one to gain: those with 2 stars ** behind them. One click and you have a few credits without registering with other sites. Do think of giving them a dedicated e-mail address though (I got spammed all over when I registered with them).

Thanks, Tanja ... hadn't spotted that option.

Thanks Falkyrn,

Yes, he's there, but it only gives an address.  I want to get a phone number, which I think the electoral roll has, right?

I'd already found the address from bt.com, and it seems they are ex-directory.  I had written to them with my phone number.  They called when I wasn't home and left a message, but not their number, so now I'm afraid they've given up on me!!

Cheers

Well, I don't actually think you get a phone number when searching the electoral roll.

Hi Tim

You won't get an ex-directory phone number from anywhere - unless you know somebody that may have it.

Best wishes

If this is the address

Shuttle Clo Sidcup
SIDCUP
DA15 8EP
KENT

then b4u does have a phone number

although if as you say they are ex directory there is no chance of you getting it from BT or any online source.

Thanks, everyone, for your advice.  It was obviously wishful thinking on my part that the electoral roll may have phone info.

Falkyrn ... it seems there are actually two gentlemen of the same name (but different middle initial) in Sidcup ... the one you found is the other fellow ... and of couse, his phone number IS available through bt.com!!

I guess I'll just have to write another letter or hope they call back at some point.

All the best
