Hi,
I would be grateful if anyone could help me find the Hibbett family of Empingham.
They are William and Ann (both b c. 1790s) and children: Mary (c 1818), Eliza (c 1819), John (c 1821) and Henry (c 1824).
Henry moved up to York and was married in Easingwold in 1846, but I don't know when, or if the whole family moved up there. If they are not around for the 41 census I'll know to look in York. If only Henry moved I would be interested in the census for the rest of the family.
Thank you for anyone who can help me. I'd love to know WHY he moved up to York, but I don't suppose you can help with that!
Thanks, Diane

Thanks Mike,
I have come across this other family before, but not been able to definitely link them as yet, althought I'm sure there is a connection.
The 61 census is intriguing. Maybe William and Ann went away, then returned?
Thank you for helping, Diane

I am also a descendant of Henry Hibbett. My greatgrandfather, Arthur Hibbett, was Henry's youngest son. Henry's christening is recorded in Empingham parish church in Janyuary 1824. His parents are given as Luke and Ann Hibbett with anote saying Exton in the county of Rutland, which may refer to either or both the parents. I have not been able to identify this Luke from several candidates in both parishes due to the various spellings of the name.
Hve you been able to get further back?

hi Tim,
It's very exciting to find another Hibbett researcher. Henry did indeed have a son Arthur. My line comes from Henry's oldest son, William Farrow Hibbett.
However, on Henry's marriage certificate (to Ann Farrow) his father's name is William, not Luke, so I'm a bit confused now!
I got Henry's baptism from the IGI - 21.3.1824, Empingham (parents William and Ann Hibbett).
I go back 3 more generations on the Farrow side. I will PM you.

Diane, Many thanks. I found two Henrys in the parish records. One, son of William and Ann (Farrow) spelled Hibbitt born or registered on 21st March 1824; the other the son of Luke and Ann spelled Hibbett born or registered on an illegible date in January 1824.
I follwed the hibbett spelling in thinking that Luke and Ann were Henry's parents but my cousin who has also researched the family, thinks that William and Ann were our Henry's parents and your confirmation of the Farrow connection seems to make that certain. So many thanks for putting me right.
Have you got any further back with William's parents?
Tim

Tim,
I believe William's wife may be Ann Pugmore. (IGI: William Hibbett m Ann Pugmore 26.8.1817, Empingham). But I know nothing more. William's parents May have been Luke Hibbett and Mary Lee of Exton.
I haven't been able to find them in any of the censuses, so a bit stuck really.
I don't know why Henry moved north, but I found him in Market Place, Market Deeping, Lincs in 1841 (aged 15), where he was a glazier's apprentice. Interestingly Ann Farrow was living 2 - 3 miles away in Greatford with a clergyman and his family - maybe as a servant, but impossible to read. So that solves the mystery of where they met. Then I have them married in York with their growing family on all the later censuses.
I have sent you a personal message with my e mail address so we can swop info. I have quite a lot on the Farrows.

Don't know if this is of any help but whilst visiting the Exton area recently I noticed that many of the headstones in the churchyard of the parish church bore the HIBBITT/HIBBETT surname. (Can't exactly remember which spelling).

Hello, I don't know if this helps at all but I am a descendant of John Hibbett and Edward Hibbett of Market Deeping. My dad has heaps of info rg Edward as he wrote a journal. He's just been re-tracing his steps here in New Zealand where he came for a short while. We originate in the Market Deeping area of lincs.
Please let me know if you need any info and i'll put you in contact with my Dad.
