I don't find this website easy to use at all. I asked 'Dusty' if he'she could look at the 1861 census for me, and the reply was to post the query and maybe someone would help. It has taken me some time to find this page and I can only hope it is the right one. I would be glad if I could have some assistance to find George Royle age about 30, perhaps a brewer or brewer's assistant, born in Manchester. His wife Ellen (Simner) age about 30 born in Liverpool or perhaps Flint. They married in Liverpool in 1852. They should also have a son William Sumner Royle age 10 to 15. I am not too clever with a computer and I find this website too complicated with too much information. Does anyone else feel brave enough to admit to the same? Thanks for reading this. John Royle.

Hi John Sorry to hear that you find the site a little difficult to navigate, but if you stick with rootschat, I'm sure you'll soon find your way around with help from other members. I have found your George and Ellen I think, but there is no son with them, and he isn't a brewer or assistant but he is the only possible. 1861 Census RG9 Piece 2652 Folio 122 Page 41 60 Elden Place, Liverpool ROYLE George Head Marr 30 Cotton Porter b Manchester Ellen Wife Marr b Liverpool
I hope you soon get used to the site, just find the county you want looking at and post and someone will pick it up and post back to you. Happy Hunting Anne

Thanks Gran from a grandpa. As it happens, I have been to the LDS this evening and also found George and Ellen in Eldon Place. The son William was probably living with relatives since he was born perhaps 5yrs before they were married in 1852. I will now look for his place of birth as shown on the 1871 census because by then he was married to Mary Ann Goddard and living in Liverpool. Isn't it nice having grandchildren? Kind regards John Royle.

Hello Anne We have two :- Frances Emily who is seven, and her brother Samuel James who is five. I pick them up from school every day so we see a great deal of them. We are very lucky and it was certainly worth moving from Worcestershire to Yorkshire. Best wishes John.
