My gggrandad arthur smith was landlord or owner of the malsters arms in houghton le spring its a pub no longer. Is there a way of finding out dates when pub closed or who was publican when.

This site might help with trade directory entries for the pub
http://www.historicaldirectories.org/
You could contact local museum and local history society for information. Bridport Museum were very helpful to me in a similar situation, they even provided a photo of the now demolished pub.
