Hi,
I have hit a brick wall and would appreciate a bit of advice.
There doesn't seem to be IGI Batch numbers for Arkesden or Birchanger. Is it possible that they were grouped under a different/neighbouring town? Or maybe the LDS haven't transcribed them yet?
I believe my ancesters were non-conformists but they would have married in an Anglican church. Unfortunately I live in a country where there are no LDS Centres, so any pointers to an online source would be a big help.

A Google on GENUKI seems to suggest that Arkesden might be part of Saffron Walden, and Birchanger might be part of Bishop's Stortford.

I think what I mentioned might be Registration Districts.
There are church records of Arkesden mentioned in the FHL library catalogue on FamilySearch - do a search for Arkesden (part of England can added but not needed).

PS: According to the FHL library catalogue they've certainly filmed the parish records of the Anglican churches of both Arkesden and Birchanger - but I can't find batch numbers on Hugh Wallis's site ....

Hi,
I have also checked Hugh Wallis site but didn't find any nos. The only records on family search (that I have so far found) mentioning Birchanger or Arkesden are submitted by members of the church and normally don't contain source information. Maybe the LDS just haven't put them online yet.

Although LDS have filmed the Arkesden and Birchanger registers they have not indexed or 'extracted' them, so no batches have been created.
The fact that the entries in the Family History Library just say 'Church Records' confirms this. If the extractions had been done there would be a listing for 'Church Records - Indexes'.
To see the difference look at the Library entry for one of these parishes, and then for Castle Hedingham.

Hallo, I've only become aware of this phenomenon recently. Fortunately, none of my own trees and their locations has so far 'suffered' from a lack of coverage by IGI (which is not meant to be a criticism of that splendid project or LDS) but on a few occasions helping out others I realised there were gaps.
If one can rely on the info at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle
in the Essex section, for example, there is no coverage for Kirby le Soken
and partial coverage for
Wivenhoe Independents baptisms 1800-1837
Thorpe le Soken Baptists 1788-1837
French 1684-1726
If this is widely known then this will lead to a greater number of requests for look-ups for locations where these gaps exist

That's good to hear  especially in light of the fact that another organisation -no names, no pack drill - could have been expected to do what the LDS have done and are still doing
