Hi,
Can someone with Yorkshire knowledge help me please.
I have someone who gave their place of birth as South Milford on the census.
I cannot find a birth for that person under South Milford on the IGI, but there is one that fits for Sherburn-in-Elmet. Looking at the map they are very close. Would S Milford come under Sherburn in Elmet parish?
I hope I'm in the right Riding!
Thanks, Diane

Sherburn in Elmet and South Milford are adjacent to each other, Sherburn is a large village / town, whereas South Milford is a small village, literally a stones throw from here. South Milford does come under the Sherburn in Elmet parish.

I'm just 5 minutes away, too, if there's anything I can help with. Jacky

Wow, thank you.
The only thing I can think of is if there are any graves.
The family I am researching are Connells. Now I have made the S Milford connection, I think the line goes as follows:
William Connell | Mark Connell (abt 1770) m Sarah Frankland | Elizabeth (1794), William (1796), Thomas (1799), Mark (1803) and John (1806).
William moved to York so presumably is buried there, his sons certainly are. The IGI has all of these baptised at Sherburn-in-Elmet, but William said S Milford on the census. Is there a church there? So if you are passing and fancy a stroll around the churchyard looking for Connell graves I would be most grateful!!

Thanks, I just looked, but couldn't find any Connells
Perhaps they are at Sherburn-in-Elmet.
