:)Hi,
I don't know Somerset and have tracked down some of my husband's relatives who were born in Baltonsborough abt 1840. His name was Edmund Marsh. I think his father may have been Edward Marsh.
Would anyone be able to tell me which parish records I ought to be looking for please.
Thank you
Jenny

Meg, Thanks for that information.
I am in Yorkshire so wasn't sure if Baltonsborough would be under another parish.

 Hello Fitz,
I think there may be a connection. Like yourself, this family is not in my line but my husbands. I was quite surprised when I discovered Edmund's birthplace to be Baltonsborough in Somerset, most of my husband's relatives appear to be from Yorkshire or Lincolnshire.
Edmund was born around 1836/7 calculating his age from census details. On the IGI I have found what I think is the same family you refer to which seems to match the information I have for Edmund.
Edmund move up the country and settled in Doncaster, Yorkshire, collecting a wife, Mary Ann, from Saltfleet in Lincolnshire along the way. Edmund died in Doncaster in 1879.
On the 1851 census I can find what I believe to be Edmund Marsh age 14, and living in Langfordbudvilles. Also on the 1851 there is an Edward Marsh age 51, carpenter, born Baltonsborough. He is living with wife Elizabeth, age 48, born Twerton, and children Simon and Joseph. The family living in Wells St Cuthbert.
The only other information I have is taken from the IGI so I am not sure if it is accurate. I think the parents of Edward Marsh born 1800 and James Marsh born 1805 are William Marsh and Joan. They appear on the IGI with matching children. I have discovered that there are lots and lots of Marsh's in Somerset and began to get confused.
This is pretty much all I know. I keep coming back to this line periodically to see if I can find more information and get a little further back.
If you have any other information that would help I would like to hear from you. If you think there is a connection then you are the first "overseas" relative I have found for my husband. There seems to be lots of them in my tree.
If you want more information on Edmund, ie children, places etc please let me know.
Regards
Jenny

Hello again Fitz,
It looks as though you could actually help me more than I can help you. I would be very interested to see the information you have collated from the Baltonsborough parish records.
This is what I know:
I have the same family for William Marsh and Jane (I thought her name was Joan). I have made a rough guess of birthdates at around 1775. I have all the same children you mention, apart from I only have the first Joseph.
The information I have on Edward is sketchy but here goes: Children of Edward Marsh and Elizabeth. Taken from the IGI Mary born abt 1832 Joseph born abt 1832 (maybe twins or just christened together) Henrietta 1835 Edmund 1836/7 Frank 1838 Simon 1841.
Information from the 1851 census:
Southover MARSH Edward, 41, Carpenter, Baltonsborough, Som Elizabeth, 48, Twerton, Som Simon, 10, Scholar, Baltonsborough, Som Joseph, 19, Printer (or painter), Baltonsborough, Som ALLEN Edmund, Lodger, 2 Bath BOSTICK Stephen, Lodger, 33, Tailor, Bath HOOD Joseph, Lodger, 20, Cabinet Maker, Bridgewater, Som Living in Wells st Cuthbert.
MARSH Edmund, 14, Blacksmith, Baltonsborough BLACKMORE George, 36, Blacksmith, West Buckland, Som BLACKMORE Mary, 36, Uffculm BLACKMORE Mary, 8, Langford Budville, Som BLACKMORE Leah, 6 " " BLACKMORE Emily 4 m " " LOXTON James, 20, Blacksmith Apprentice, Baltonsborough
By 1861 Edmund Marsh had married Mary Ann ........ from Saltfleet. They had moved to Bridge Terrace, Balby, Doncaster.
Children of Edmund & Mary Ann Marsh: All born Doncaster apart from one. Joseph 1862 William 1863 - died 21.5.1930 Mary E 1865 George W 1865 Edward 1868 Christina M 1869 - Born Saltfleet Charles Frank 1870 Sarah Ann 1871 Emma 1873 John 1875 Eliza Faith 1877
William Marsh born 1863 married Alice Coy 6 June 1896 in Doncaster. Their children were: All born Doncaster, Yorkshire Lilian 1892 Ethel May 1896 Rose 1899 Edward 1900 William 1901 Percy 1903 - died 1929 of Enteric poisoning Hilda 1905 Ernest 1906
My husband is descended from Percy Marsh who died age 26 of Enteric Poisoning.
I hope this helps and is what you wanted.
Best wishes
Jenny
