William J. Tierney (Tearney)
« on: Monday 25 June 07 13:00 BST (UK) »

Maybe someone could help me here.  I know William Tierney (Tearney) was born June 1886 in York, Toronto East.  I was wondering if someone could find his death.  He never married and the next question how would you go about finding out what his estate was and how it was handled.  Not looking to get rich here.  Just wondering since I have found out he was a well to do man, what he would have done with his estate.  I like to put this info in the family tree.  Thanks for any help.  It is really appreciated.

good morning Karen, yes he was living in Toronto.  My quess would be around the Danforth area.  Also I think William, died a few years before Anne his sister who I don't have a death for also. I'm thinking early 1970's, which I might have to go to the Toronto star to find.

I checked the Toronto Star right through to 1979 for both William and his sister, but could not find either of them.

Thanks Janice I was wondering about the Star, but since you looked, I won't bother.  Thanks again.  They were single, makes you wonder if anyone cared.  I understand they were buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  So I am going to have to go see this cemetery.

Hi Gram,

If you can find out the date of death you will be able to find his will.  If he died with a will there would be Letters Probate filed with the court, if didn't have a will, but did have some money, there would be Letters of Administration filled with the courts.   The Court at that time was Ontario Court Surogate Division.  They have changed over the years, but I'm sure if you called the Court House in Toronto they would/should be able to direct you to were the wills are being held.

Grammit,

Here is a link to the 1911 census. Is this your William Tierney?
