1841 and 1851 census - COOMBS - Ludgershall

Hello

I'm trying to find John COOMBS born Ludgershall in about 1827.

My first sight of him is in the 1871 census when he is living in Croydon and by the 1881 he is in East Meon.

If anyone can find him on an earlier census I'd be delighted.  His father is William - information from John's second marriage to Ann Aborough in Buriton Hampshire in 1859.

Hi Verona Here is the 1861 entry. I am so far not having any luck trying to find Ludgershall in 1851

Have looked on the 1841 Census for Ludgershall. No sign of your  John or his family, if his father was William, but I found the following Coombs families:

John Coombs b 1795  Ag. Labourer  Living at ?Dewy Lane
Ann                b 1794
Philip              b 1821
William           b 1824
James            b 1826
Harriet           b 1829
Eliza               b 1831

Charles Coombs b. 1812  Ag. Labourer    living in West Street
Ann                     b. 1814
Harry                   b. 1836
Elizabeth             b. 1838
James                  b. 1840

David Coombs   b. 1796  Ag. Labourer  living in ?Fish Street
Fanny                b. 1816
Mark                  b. 1823
David                 b. 1826
Isaac                 b. 1829
Maria                 b. 1836
Henry                b. 1840

Charles Coombs and his family lived next door to the Beams family - ours!

There is an archivist at Ludgershall, should you wish to go and look at the records, which are retained in the village.

Thank you for all your efforts. 

Isn't it disappointing when the records don't tell you what you want to know?  I must have a good look at this information and then see if it marries up at all with what I know already.

Thanks also for the tip about the archive - might be a little difficult to get to see it as we live in Malta but I have a sister in Andover which isn't far away if I remember correctly.

Hi Verona. I have been told that Ludgershall is Covered by HGS 1851 index Volume 42 so it may be worth your while posting on the Hampshire Board for a 51 Lookup. Make sure you mention volume 42 in your request. All the Best Hope they show up....Kris  Cheesy
