Hi, I'm new to this so apologies if I'm breaking any protocols here!
I'm seeking any information or suggestions on an elusive branch of the family.
Bartholomew left Ireland some time in the late 1800s on his way to the US with a couple of his brothers. He never made it as he married Emma Gould in 1905 (I have a copy of the marriage certificate).
On the certificate his family name is shown as Shaw and his father's name is also shown as Shaw (deceased).
In 1907 they had a daughter who was registered as Lily O'Shea (again I have a copy of the certificate). O'Shea is the family name all living relatives remember and they know the family was from Kerry where there are a lot of O'Shea's and Shea's.
According to his marriage certificate, Bartholomew was born in 1878 but he couldn't sign his name when he was married so I'm not convinced the date is totally accurate.
I've not been able to find any records in Ireland showing a Bartholomew born to a James Shaw, Shea or O'Shea around this date.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might take this forward? Preferably o-line as I live a long way from County Kerry.
Thanks in advance

Hello Audrey and thanks for the response. I know his father's name was James so this can't be the same person.
As for the brothers, I don't know for certain. I found a Patrick and Michael O'Shea through the Ellis Island records as arriving in New York in 1905 so the timing is reasonable. They were from Glenbeigh in Kerry so that fitted as well but I've not been able to find any record in Ireland to say these two had a brother called Bartholomew and a father called James.

Thank you, that's very kind. It's the Irish side that's vexing me most of all. I've been pursuing it for a long time now but can't quite tie it down. I'd thought I got there with the two brothers from Ellis Island but I've now found conclusive evidence they're not connected!!
This Vital Records Index; is it largely the same info you can search against on the LDS web site? Would you recommend getting a copy or is it better to use on line?

Hello Christopher
Thanks for the tip. I've come across Lisa's pages before but not been back there for quite some time. I'll take a good look later on.
Thanks again.
