Does anyone no about a piece of land in Harrogate,my father used to play there early 1920's and I believe there may have been an orphanage near by.

Hi Billabong

If you put "The Stray" Harrogate in Google there is quite a lot of information.

E.g. see photo of The Stray at http://www.ushistoricalarchive.com/photochroms/4020.html

Best wishes

Could this be the orphanage ?  Otley Road goes along the south side of the stray...

There was also a Jewish children's home beside the Stray, and a National Children's Home on Pannal Ash Road. The convent was a school not a home.
Any Help?
