I'm trying to find John and Isaac COOMBS in the above censuses. Both were born in Ludgershall, Wiltshire but no-one is able to find them in 1841 so perhaps they had already moved to Portchester, or elsewhere(?). John was born about 1827 and Isaac in about 1834. Their father should be William - that is the name John gives on the marriage to Ann Aborough in Buriton in 1859. He is shown as a widower but I've not been able to find either his first wife or any children from a first marriage.
The 1861 details I have are
RG9/650 Folio 19 Page 31 High Street Portchester Hampshire
COOMBS John Head 34 Mar b Ludgershall Railway Labourer COOMBS Ann Wife 27 Mar b Petersfield Hampshire COOMBS Isaac Brother 27 Unm b Ludgershall Shepherd
I've not found any other details of Isaac on later censuses either. By 1871 John and Ann were in Croydon so his job obviously took them about a bit.
Thank you.
I've just been informed by Kris on the Wiltshire list that "Ludgershall is Covered by HGS 1851 index Volume 42" so if anyone has access I'd be very grateful
