TREEBY of MODBURY & Stoke Damerel
« on: Saturday 11 June 05 02:36 BST (UK) »

My Treeby connections commence with the marriage of MARY COLOM TREEBY to HENRY EVANS IN SOUTHWARK, south of the River Thames in London.

MARY COLOM TREEBY was, however, born in STOKE DAMEREL in 1832, the daughter of WILLIAM GILES TREEBY born 13th August, 1807 & MATILDA PAIN born 17th February, 1812, who had 3 other known children....

RICHARD TREEBY, born 1833
WILLIAM CHARLES TREEBY born 19th October, 1835
JOSEPH HENRY TREEBY born 30th June, 1837

WILLIAM GILES TREEBY (tailor) born 13th August, 1807 was the son of JOSEPH TREEBY born 1877 in Modbury, & MARY GILES, who were married on 27th May, 1804 at East Stonehouse, and they had 4 other known children.....

SAMUEL TREEBY born 26 December, 1805
JANE TREEBY born abt. 1811
JOSEPH TREEBY born abt. 1813
HENRY TREEBY born abt. 1815

Following the traditions of that time, two of these children were named after the parents of Joseph, and these were

SAMUEL TREEBY & JANE TOMS both of Modbury, married 25th January, 1761. They also had the following known children:

FRANCIS TREEBY born 1763 Modbury
ELIZABETH TREEBY born 1765 Modbury
MARY TREEBY born 1767 Modbury.

If anyone has any further knowledge of any of these families, I would dearly love to hear from them

Best regards, Diana

Hi Diana,

I have Treeby's from Modbury in branches of my tree,
I have a Francis Treeby. married aElizabeth Toms in 1752. wonder if that could be a brother to Samuel.. their daughter Grace married a George Quint and they had a daughter who married into my line of Watts. All from Modbury.

Hi Pat,

I believe that we ARE of the same TREEBY family, but I have to be totally honest with you, in that I am thoroughly confused over the different names that occur
over and over again in this family, which makes it very difficult to ascertain which ones are mine!!!

Because of this, I have not entered as much information as I actually have on this family on Rootschat, but before I can let you know more, I must get out my old fashioned paper notes and then I will write and tell you.

I know that I have communicated with another person some time ago who had the Quint name in their tree, and there is also a gentleman who is a bit of a whizz kid on the Treeby's of Modbury.  I will try to find their details and send them to you.

Right now I am down with a rather nasty bug, so please give me a day or two to get back to you.  Cheers Diana

Hi again Pat,

I just remembered the name of the gentleman who has a lot of information on the Treeby's of Modbury...it is Paul Sherriff, and his e-mail address is:

Also, in case you have not already seen it, you might be interested in looking at the Genforum page on Treeby's, which can be found at:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/treeby/

On that page you will see letters between Paul and myself, which may give you a bit more of a clue while you are waiting for me to get back to you.

There used to be a Treeby One Name Society page too, but it seems to have been closed down, which is a shame as there were a lot of people on that who are tracing Treeby's.

Back to you again soon,  Cheers Diana

Good Morning Diana.

Thank you for your message.
I know Paul. he has helped me with my Watts from Modbury.
Just looked on genealogy.com and see your notes to each other.
I do have Samuel 1739 married to Joan Tombs,    he is the brother of Francis. .
It all gets so confusing whe they have had two wives and you have to sort out which is the right mother.

It really is so fantastic when you find some one researching the same family.

Hope you will soon be feeling better....
Take care.
Pat...

Diana..

Just been looking through paper work...Mt Francis also had children named Elizabeth,Samuel, Francis and more.. so they do keep the names in the family.. yes it's really confusing.

Hi Pat,

So sorry to have kept you waiting for my promised reply, and even more
so that I now have to report having found nothing in my paper work that
would be of any use to you.  Somewhere I have an exercise book with
all the Treeby information that I once extracted from the Modbury parish
registers, but it seems to have completely disappeared.  Earlier this year
I went overseas for a few months and whilst away my family put all of my
family history stuff away in the top of wardrobes through the house and I
believe that this book has become a casualty of their attempt at tidiness!!

Best wishes and sincere apologies, Diana
