Prisoners in Victorian Newcastle Jails

Can anyone tell me how I would go about trying to get information on any prisoners who were "guests" of HM Queens Victoria, the Prison I am interested in is Her Majesty's Prison Carliol Square, in 1881. Also is there any way I would be able to see the Court Records for that time period. My trouble is I am in Australia, so would need to be able to access them through films if available. The prisoner I am interested in finding is a William Hall, there was one in the prison in 1881 born 1847, an innkeeper. Just curious as it may be my gr grandfather.
