Apologies if you know it already, but if you are searching in Dorset then you need to know this site: The Dorset Online Parish Clerks (OPC): http://www.dorset-opc.com It has a HUGE database and a good search engine. For more details, there is a description of the site here at Dorset OPC
I enterd "zelley" in the search engine and got three hits,
1851 Census Broadwinsor
1861 Census Preston with Sutton Poyntz
1881 Census Vessels off Portland
"vallence" brought up 10 hits and
"vallens" brought up 15 hits
Try it and see if you recognise anyone.

Hi , I'm interested in the Lovell's from weymouth dorset.
I am looking for a Jane Lovell born/bapt(not sure which) 20 Feb 1670.weymouth Dorset.That is all I have on her.I think her father was John,but not 100% sure.i believe an uncle or great uncle Robert with family went to the USA.But I am interested in jane.She married a John Butterfield in Little Gaddesden hertfordshire in 1688.hopefully you have some info on this line.
