Hello all, would love some help if at all possible. I have a photocopy of Rose Cottages obtained from Hackney Archives in 2002. I am trying to ascertain if this lovely building is still standing today. On the 1851 Census my g/g/grandmother Elizabeth Dawson aged 43 is listed as Head. The address is No. 2 Rose Cottages, Kingsland Basin. West Hackney, Middlesex. (Film Ref. No. HO 107/1504 Folio 547) As areas /streets have changed since 1851, I wonder if perhaps the cottages are still standing and have been restored and Kingsland Basin is called by another name eg. Shrubland Road. I did find a listing for Rose Cottages, Shrubland Road when searching the archives online last year. Also I posted my question on Rootsweb Middlesex_County etc April 04 and received a reply saying that Surubland Road was very close to Kingsland Road(Basin) area and most likely it is the one I am after. If anyone lives in this area, and feels like taking a leisurely walk, could they kindly have a quick look at the cottages in Shrubland Road. I think from looking at the photocopied picture which is not very good that the name Rose Cottages appears on a plaque in the center top of the whole building. I can email the photocopy if needed. Thanks so much everyone. I will keep my fingers crossed. Kind regards Maria
