Macclesfield - ring 0 bells
« on: Saturday 11 June 05 15:42 UTC (UK) »

Joseph Atkin was shown as living at 1, Ring o Bells Yard, King Edward Street, Macclesfield on the 1861 census.

Does this still exist and does anyone have any information about this place. As I will be in the UK later this year, I would like to see it.

Hi
The Ring o Bells no longer exists, it was closed in 1914 and most of King Edward Street redeveloped.
In the early 1800's it brewed its own ale and then in 1835 the brewing equipment was auctioned of and it would be likely that the brewing house would have been turned into dwellings.

The photo was taken at the time of the coronation of George v in 1911.

hope this helps
