Have located your family in 1841 & 1851 (name index) but it won't help with identifying the elusive father I'm afraid.   Sad

Thanks but I'm even more confused now! What does Ind mean? Can I assume that Hannah was his mother? Is there any way of finding out relationships? Help! I thought his mother was Elizabeth.

Oh dear - I seem to have created more questions than answers   Undecided

Ind - means "independent", or she supported herself financially.

I can't provide you with any extra information on the 1851 census as the full transcript has not yet become available on CD and the only way I know of viewing it is to visit the Local Records Office. The 1841 only has the information I provided listed.

I have taken a quick look on the 1861 census and found Hannah on that.  She is listed as "widow" so at least we know she was married!!
