My Nanna on her wedding day
|
Hi all,
Trying to read the address on an 1871 census sheet, hoping someone can help!
It looks like it might be
95 Lindfield Road - the L is very sweeping and could possibly even be a C
I can't quite read the civil parish - it might say Bromley?
The next column that is filled in says partminster bart of Tower Hamlets (ok I don't know the first 2 words! )
The ecclesiastical district looks like maybe St Mary Bromley
I need some help here!

Bromley, St Mary and Tower Hamlets would all go together. I'm having difficulty finding the road. What is the piece number for this? Could it be Lichfield Road?

I would expect Lichfield Road - which still exists near Mile End Station - to be in RG10/571. I have a gg uncle who lived nearby in 1871. I can't see anything that matches Cindfield/Cindford or similar.
You can see where it is by going to: http://www.streetmap.co.uk and searching for it. Its the one in London E3.

Nell, thank you.
The more I look at it and compare it with other letters on the same page, the more I think it's something like Conghall or Condhall (the letter looks like it could be a d or a g and then the enumerator changed his mind/corrected himself!)
I had a look at the site you gave me to see if I could match it, but no luck. Any other thoughts?
Cheers
Karen

Karen,
Are you able to post just that part of the address so that others can have a look at it and help out here? I've been looking at both old and modern maps but the streets could easily be missing from either (because they hadn't been built yet or because the area has been redeveloped.
I've also looked through the street index for 1891 for clues but can't see anything likely at the moment. And Lichfield Road is not there in 1891!!
