I take no credit at all for giving out this information - it's just that some time ago another Rootschatter on the Lancashire site gave me this website in connection with my Dyson family reaearch, namely the website for I.G.I Batch numbers. It is disappearing fast on about the third page of postings now, but I have found it HUGELY helpful. Here it is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm I hope everyone who tries it finds it as helpful as I have, and I make no apologies for resurrecting it... Keith

After researching for nearly a year I only just found the site and realised how you can use it. I didn't realise how the Batch numbers at the bottom of the page on IGI can be used. It is really wonderful!
I think we should point out to anyone who doesn't know that if you find a relative on IGI you canuse the batch numbers at the bottom of the page (using the surname only and parents names if you have them) to possibly find siblings.
On the Batch number site you can look up the batch numbers on either side of one you already have or a marriage batch numbers which correspond with christenings in the same church. Of course you can start off there and by using the appropriate batch number go straight to the town, parish or specific church you are interested in rather than ploughing through the whole coumties entries.
I hope I explained that properly
Does anyone have any secrets of how to use the batch numbers to advantage, because I would love to know if you do!
Cheers Wendy

I've never actually used the batch numbers themselves, but I use this site to search for siblings in the same parish. The beauty is that when you draw a blank somewhere where you expect to find something, you can go to other parishes in the same town or adjacent parishes. I have found numerous relatives in this way. The best thing about this site is that if you have all the records for a parish, the chances of finding parents, siblings, siblings of parents in the same parish, certainly before 1837, is very good.
I have never actually taken the time and effort to work out what the batch numbers represent. I am sure that if I did so, that it might be worthwhile. Will check it out soon and advise.
