I have a heap of my ancestors lived in Cranfield too, from 1800's all through back to early 1700's. I have seen the parish registers on fiche and they give a lot of info. One of the ministers of the Cof E church there put in info on occupations, which was a bonus.

Have you tried the 1881 census which is available online at www.familysearch.org ?
RG11/1636 folio 8 Cranfield Susan Goff head unmarried 54 lacemaker born Cranfield Eliza Goff niece unmarried 30 lace maker born Cranfield Minnie E Goff grandniece 9 scholar b Bucks? Brill? Arthur W Goff grandnephew 4 b Cranfield Joseph Goff nephew 15 ag lab b Cranfield
It appears as though Arthur may have been the illegitimate son of Eliza.
In 1891 they were still living in Cranfield Thomas G Harper head marr 43 farm lab Eliza Harper wife 44 straw hat sewer Arthur W Gough wife's son 14 errand boy Susan Gough Wife's aunt single 65 All born Cranfield
Free BMD has a birth of Arthur William Gough in Ampthill registration district, which includes Cranfield, in the March quarter 1877 volume 3b page 403 http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
If you order the certificate which can be done online it will show if a father is named.
Hope this helps
