I am researching Blestowe family generally and know that William Blestowe and his wife Jane emigrated to NZ in 1873 on the Berar landed in Auckland with two sons Abbe William and William Oakly both born in UK.
I know that others were born, I think in NZ. I have records of George Hammond, Joseph W Hammond, Ada Mary and a Henry who all ended up in Australia.
It would appear that William died in NZ as Jane married a Edward Barnes in Balmain Australia in 1888.
I would be very grateful for any B.D.M. info. of blestowe in NZ and is it possible that any remained there after the others left for Australia.
The only family that seem to match is that of BLISTOW, VIS; Blistow William 31 Wiltshire Labourer Jane 26 A W 3 William O 1

Thanks for reply, these Blistowe' are the family that emigrated, the surname Blestowe is a corruption of Bletso (e) and has been mis spelt ever since.
The name changed when William Bletso joined the marines in 1860. On joining it was spelt Bletsowe and by the time he left in 1872 it had become Blestowe. As he could not read or write variations continued.
I know most of his descendants ended up in Australia but am having difficulty in contacting any direct ones.

Hello Brian
I may not have the information that you require however, I am interested in the Edward R T Barnes who married Jane Blestowe. My G G Grandfather was Edward R T Barnes and that is about all I know.
I know Edward R T was born around 1816-1818 but not sure where. I know he was married and had children in my country of Aust. However, he was married to a Mary A Ford but, he may have re-married.
Just thought I would drop you a line to see if any of this made any sense.
