Salehurst Emigrants to Sydney NSW 1838/9

Hi Sussex Researchers

Having just located the original transcripts of documents (Salehurst Poor Law Union) in the East Sussex Records Office, done whilst doing my 'Local History Course', I am now able to provide a list of parishoners from Salehurst who emigrated to Sydney in NSW between 1838 /39

The Poor law Unions of Salehurst in Sussex had agreed to pay Adults £2/10/- and children £1/10/- or £1/5/-  expenses to emigrate to Sydney New South Wales. This allowance was itemized in the Parish Documents as for providing Clothing and Travel (40 miles) to port of Embarkation.

The information which is in the following format:

Ship ‘Westminster’
Embarked Gravesend March 21 1838
FLUTTER Charles (27) & Martha (27) from Salehurst
together with John (4) and Edward (2)
                   Family received £7/10/- expenses

has been added to

My goodness Chris, not only did we get your ruffians and rogues, we also got the poor that the parish obviously didn't want to support.   Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

I will add a link to your post  on the Oz emigrants board - folks there (including myself) are always looking for shipping lists and the like
