Can't help with 61 without a street address, but he is in Shepperton in 71 (Staines Reg District) living with wife Elizabeth and son Alfred. Let me know if you want full entry.

Thanks for the info Rick. I can find him on 1871,1881,1891 & 1901 census but he is a mystery before that. I don't know when he moved to Middlesex from Wiltshire but I'll kept looking.
The only address I have is from his marriage certificate dated 8/01/1870 which is Middleton. then it looks like 'Co' Middlesex. His fathers name is given as Joseph. Occupation Agricultural Labourer. I don't know if this will help to locate him if he was living in Middlesex in 1861. Mistyrose41

Sorry for the confusion......I remember now!
Ok.........I actually meant a street address. But, I have just realised that my 1861 does not cover non-metropolitan Middlesex, so I am afraid that I couldn't have helped in anycase.
Sorry again. Rick

HI MistyRose
Did you ever find your William Newman in 1861.
There is a national index available now, so one of us might be able to find him if you still need us to?
If he's been located can you let us know please.
Regards
Carol

Hello Carol, There is a William Newman born at Highworth Wilts in 1845 on the '61. In fact there are 2. The possible match is the one living in the Tything of Eastrop a Lodger in the household of a William and Mary Stone of Common Farm. He is the right age, doing the right job in approx. the right area [birthplace given as Cricklade on '71 '81 '91 and 1901census returns]. Unfortunately this does not help me trace his parents. Is he the son of Mary Newman from the Calne Union workhouse? Mary died in the Workhouse on 26th July 1852. The union would have placed her children somewhere I need to fine out where. The William Newman on the '61 Middlesex is the son of a William and Ann Newman [Ann is widowed on the '61] On the '51 it shows William senior as a School Teacher so I don't think this is the family I am looking for. There is a William Newman in Surrey at Claremont. He appears on th '71 also so not my William. Thank you all for your help it is much appreciated. I am hoping to get a trip down to Trowbridge to have a look at their records from the Workhouse to see if I can pick anything up from them. I'll let you know if I do. Kind Regards, Mistyrose
