PHILLIPS, ASHBOURNE, RUANE and CLEWS
« on: Monday 13 June 05 07:58 BST (UK) »

Edwin Emery PHILLIPS was only five in 1881, residing in Edgbaston with Thomas  and Rosa (Emery) PHILLIPS and his older siblings
such as Thomas Phillips Jr. who would emigrate to Canada
and marry London's own Nancy LEWIS in Calgary.
If one checks out the London thread you may find
the piece called the "Echoes of Angel Alley"

As time slipped by young Edwin can be found on MOSELEY road in Aston employed as a 15 year old brass founder.  But, a number of other Moseley residents would also be employed
in the brass works such as Hugh Patrick RUANE, and
Henry ASHBOURNE.  Another well known name in the area was the CLEWS family.

AS time slipped by various members of the PHILLIPS, RUANE and ASHBOURNE would lose members in WW I. Two
examples include Justin Joseph & john Patrick RUANE.
Meanwhile, Edwin Emery PHILLIPS would lose his Canadian born Nephew John (Jack) PHILLIPS in 1918.

Hi Zelley

Would this be the same Edward Emery PHILLIPS of 66 Primrose Lane, Hall Green, Birmingham, retired commercial clerk who died 29 Oct 1949?

The probate notice in the London Gazette http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/index.asp?webType=0 lists a Frederick Horace DIX as representative.

I am interested in this Frederick Horace DIX who may be my relative.  Do you know of any connection?

Best wishes

The first think would to see how old Phillips was when he died in 1949
and to determine if Dix was acting as a friend or legal person. or
connected.  Need age and birth of F. H. Dix.

Hi Zelley

I'm not sure that it is the same F H DIX as mine and was originally wondering if you knew/had known him personally so not to worry if you don't/didn't.

Best wishes

I have a Susannah Clews married in1802 to John Batchelor. The IGI shows Susannah born Dec.25, 1778.
Is this any connection?

Hello all,
I am the greatx2 grand son of Thomas Phillips mentioned by Brian Zelley in his first entry on Edward Emery Phillips. I would like to hear from any relative in England that may be direct dependants of this Phillips family from the Moresley Rd, 25 Speedwell Rd. or 66 Primrose Lane address. I am planning a trip to England in the near future. There are still some unanswered questions to complete my back ground on my fathers family.

I meant to spell my great great uncle as Edwin Emery Phillips; not Edward. Please note the correction folks. Wilfred Phillips

Emery was the birth name of Edwin's mother.
Thanks Wilfred for the correction.
