Fred and Harry Miller 1932

My G grandfather WILLIAM HENRY MILLER B1873 died in Chester Town, Delaware Co, in either 1938 or 1939. His last known address was Walnut St, where he was living with (or landlady) Mrs Glover. I need help in tracing a death certificate for William. I dont think he was naturalised and dont think he had social security number but know that he worked at Belmont Iron and Steel company.
He emigrated around 1924, and because he was an expected immigrant he did not go through Ellison Island (apparentley). I have the family on the 1930 census, and where it says Naruralisation it says PA, im not sure what this means. Any help or advice is very much appreciated, Thankyou, Kathryn.

DO you know what state Chester Town in Delaware county is located? Figure out that location and you could request a copy of the death record from the State health department or the local town/village clerk. I doubt he had a SS# as they were given out starting in 1936.
He might have immigrated through Philadelphia if the location you are looking for is in Pennsylvania. I think PA as an answer to naturalization is petitioned but not yet granted.

Thanks Nutkin, its in the state of Pennysylvania, I will have a scout about on the 'net and see what's needed to apply. Its a bit of a muddle doing research abroad because Im not familiar with the laws and stuff. Im worried I'll need a ss number and, like you say, William probably wont have had one. A death cert must exist for him (we know he died in a road accident), and there must be some way of obtaining a copy with or without Naturalisation.
You wouldnt happen to know if his death would have to be registered in England also? His wife and children came back to England a few years before he died and I wondered if they would have to let the authorities know here that he no longer existed.
Thanks again

His death would have been registered in the place he was living at the time. I am confused by your second message. Did he died in the US or the UK?
If in the US, try the following to get a death record. A social security number is not necessary to get a death record.
Death Records The Division of Vital Records issues only certified copies of death records with the raised seal. Death records are available from 1906 to the present.
Here is the link to get a death record and the form to fill out. You will need to conact the PA department of health for a copy of the death record. http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/health/cwp/view.asp?a=168&Q=202275
Also here are some other links for the area you are looking. Here is the address for Chester Township Administrative Office: 1150 Engle Street Chester, PA 19013
