Hi All,
And a special welcome to Vikki - you must all have a look at her website http://www.pbase.com/vhansen/colorings - there is a lot of brilliant work there!!
A few of us have been, with deadants expert help, trying to colorize some of our photos - now we may be lucky enough to have another helper!!
Can I ask Vikki where she gets the ideas for some of her colours she uses - I am trying to colour a 1930 photo and am finding it difficult, (with a man's imagination!!) to visualise the colours of ladies dress etc - and even mens suits - were they all brown or grey??
See asking questions already!!
Cheers
Keith

Thank you all so much! What a great Welcome. I really enjoy coloring. It's sort of a self-challenge to see how realistic I can get the images. Plus, I enjoy seeing the people in color, as they seem more like actual beings rather than just old photographs.
I guess on a lot of my color choices, others I'll look at clothing from the era. There are a couple of vintage fashion sites that discuss fabrics, colors, and style trends.
I don't mind answering questions, if I can help, so ask away. I must warn though, that I can be a nitpicker, as I believe the "devil is in the details". Vikki

Hi Vikki, I have to agree with you on the devil in the detail. I think most people who first start to colorize tend to select large areas and change everyting in one go and leave it at that. So I think it is important to work every object in the photo and adjust accordingly. This may take a lot longer to do but the results are more realistic. I have been trying the tutorial you suggested at worth1000 and t does take a bit of practice but the results are worth the effort.

Wow!! You are so clever at colorizing those black and white photos.
I am only in the very early stages of using PSP9 to fix photos - think it's going to take me ages to get to your standard.

Vikki, your website examples are wonderful! You can really start to se what all the fuss was about with these movie starlets - Rita Hayworth in particular. Think I've found a new pin-up girl!

I read this thread with interest and went to the site as I would like to learn how to do this.
I read down the glowing references given by people about her site and chose the link given by Vikki Hansen herself to look at the tutorial.
This link opened a window which couldn't find the site, then another, then another and another ....... ad infinitum, until I had to switch my computer off to get rid of it all.

Hi Daisy
Welcome to Rootschat!
Bad luck - I didn't have that problem when I tried the link.
Hope it hasn't put you off Rootschat - I can honestly say I have never had a problem with any site recommended by Rootschatters.
Hopefully it was a glitch and it will be resolved.
cheers
Paul

Nothing wrong with the link in Keith Batemans post.
If your problem arose on her site, it sounds like you didnt wait long enough for the tutorial to download.
