I have a mystery to do with an ancestor John Campion KENT, from Saffron Walden, born abt 1810. He married in 1833. All previous research shows that he married Mary Ann Watson in 1833. However I have recently found on the IGI a record (that is unavailable) which shows John Campion Kent marrying in 1833, Mary Ann Malion. I do not have a marriage certificate, but the birth of his daughter Sarah Ann gives the mothers name as Mary Ann formerly Watson. Does this mean she married twice? If anyone can shed light on this mystery I would be very grateful!

The IGI entry is on one of the recent 'I' series batches that appear to be extractions rather than patron submissions, but have not been explained by the LDS, and which are prompting some discussion in the genealogical news-groups. I suspect that the only way to resolve this is to have someone look at the Saffron Walden marriage register entry for 30 April 1833. It is possible that there was a transcription error, and Watson was misread as Malion - the 'M' and 'W' are easily confused, and the vowels are in the same place in both words. On the other hand, if the register confirms the name Malion, then yes, a previous marriage is possible.
