CANE family
« on: Friday 07 May 04 13:40 BST (UK) »

 Hello everyone ,
I 'm new to Rootschat and I'm hoping this site will help me overcome one or two difficulties I'm experiencing in my resaerch at the moment.
I'm researching the Cane family who seem to originate from Kingsteignton, Devon.
GGGG grandmother b 1795 GGGG grandfather b. 1799 so it would seem likely that their parents were born there too. I don't live in the U.K. and so I can't take trips to archives and record offices, Parish registers etc. I can only search on the internet. The progress I'v made so far has been as the result of kind people doing lookups for me but it seems that now, having got back to a pre-census point, I'm stuck. Any advice, pointers please?

Hello Douglas 52,

Thanks for your mail re Cane family. I've been away for a couple of weeks so you can imagine my surprise when I got back and found your reply, even more so since the original request was posted last May and I had begun to lose hope. It does indeed look as if we are researching the same family and I would love to have a look at what you've got on them. The T. Cane & Thomasina Noles lead might be viable since I still have family in Wolborough  and lived there myself as a small child. If this does run then you could have  the answers to some of the questions which have been puzzling me for years. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Paymal

Your reply sounds exciting as I also have relations living in Newton Abbot. I am very new to this Roots Chat site, is there a way of communicating directly to you.

Regards

Hi Douglas 52,

Thanks for the message. I suggest we stay within the Rootschat framework and that we use the instant messaging facility( go to 'help' and take it from there) This will allow us to swap marterial privately without necessitating either of us leaving the site.
I am a descendant of the Kingsteington/ Wolborough Canes on my father's side. Let me know what you have on Canes post 1851 census to see if it corresponds with what I've got. Also do you have anything on an Abraham Cane b abt 1749 in Dartmouth or his father Jonathan Cane b. abt 1725? Despite the same name, am I researching a different family or maybe another branch? I have been wondering whether there is a French Huguenot link somewhere way back. If there is a link with this Dartmouth family then my theory might be worth following up.

Hope to hear from you soon.

My GGG grandfather wasThomas Cane b 1798/1799 Highweek married Jane Perkins.  I'm planning to make a visit to the Devon Records Office during my next holiday.  Could you let me know where the information re. Thomas Cane and Thomasine Noles was researced from?  Was it from Parish Records/Church Records from the Devon Records?

My GG grandfather was William Cane b. Kingsteignton 1832 married Harriett b 1834.

My Great Grandather was Alfred Cane b. 1872 Newton Abbot.

Hi sandl99
The information about Thomas Cane & Thomasine Noles was obtained from the I G I  family search records but as yet I have to confirm it from the parish records. According to the I G I they were married in Wolborough on the 1st. March 1763.
My grandfather was Alfred Cane b 1871
I have replied through this site as the moderator took off your e mail address from the message.
Good luck Nigel
